Alita's
Story

Weeks
21 & 22
October
20th - November 3rd
The
Rain Hits Us AGAIN!!!!!
The following week the rains
have come yet again. The forecasters say it is going to rain for days!
Poor Alita is going to and has been shut of from everyone else for the
last several days and will be in her stall until sometime next week or
longer depending on what happens with this weather.
LaNet and I believe we have
finally gotten our schedules together and if the weather co-operates,
which up till now it has not, we will be at the vets the week of
November 4th. We will see what day she gets off and work it
out from there. I don’t care if we have to send for the ark, Alita is
getting to the vet next week! In this weather, related or not, Alita’s
knee looks about 2x the size it should be. Some days it is relatively
straight and others it is very crooked.
She still consumes 14% sweet
feed 2 x daily along with Beet Pulp. She is definitely losing some
weight however it looks to all be muscle as this mare was a powerhouse
prior to the accident. It is heart breaking that she is only 5 and to
have this type of accident happen so young, or at ANY age is a real
shame. I honestly don’t know if she will ever be allowed in a large
area bigger than a paddock ever again. In foal or not in foal? That is
the ever lingering question.
I have taken her off the Bute
again and she seems to be doing OK. She only seems to need it every few
days and less now that she is just standing in the stall. We also are
still support wrapping her legs front and back and wonder if she will
need leg support for the rest of her life.
I have also been sending
e-mails over and over to the non-profit ranch that had the horse Codi
with the debilitating joint injury to try and contact the company to see
if they can help Alita. Still no answer. They don’t have a phone #
posted so calling is out of the question. I just don't understand why
they don’t respond. Not for me however for Alita’s sake!
